Nishiyama Park in Sabae city, Fukui, is famous for its gorgeous azaleas in May. But 50,000 azaleas is not the only thing that this park can boast about. Cherry blossoms are beautiful here in spring, and so are autumn leaves, which I truly learned when I first visited this park in mid November. The park was built in 1856 by the seventh lord of Sabae Han (feudal region), who made this park not for his family or for his subjects, but for the general public in Sabae. The park includes a few Japanese gardens, a zoo, and more, in a vast 560,000 ㎡ space with winding walking paths running through it. I visited at the peak of autumn season, but there weren't many people there. It's a great place to enjoy beautiful autumn leaves in Fukui!
