Pokémon Sticker Campaign Encourages Island-Hopping in Okinawa

There's a new incentive to venture beyond the main island

Pokémon fans visiting Okinawa have a new incentive to venture beyond the main island, with a sticker-collecting campaign expanding to cover 15 surrounding islands.

Organized by the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau in partnership with The Pokémon Company, the campaign features 13 original sticker designs combining Growlithe, Okinawa's support Pokémon, with local scenery and regional products. Nine of the 15 participating islands are joining the initiative for the first time.

The stickers are available from October 1, 2026, until the end of February 2027, although distribution may finish earlier if supplies run out.

Collecting them requires a little planning. Visitors must present identification confirming they live outside the island they are visiting, along with a boarding pass or other proof of arrival within the previous week. Electronic tickets are accepted, and families can use one representative's identification to meet the requirements. Residents of Okinawa Prefecture are also eligible.

The campaign aims to encourage visits to the outlying islands while highlighting their individual attractions and local communities. For travelers who enjoy Pokémon, it offers an additional reason to explore Okinawa at a slower pace and discover places they might otherwise overlook.

Distribution locations, operating hours, and sticker availability can vary, so visitors should check the official campaign website before setting out.
