Tokyo is Getting a Double-Decker Bus with Conveyor Belt Sushi

SUSHI BUS is set to begin operating on October 10, 2026

Tokyo sightseeing is about to get a very Japanese twist, and it involves eating sushi while the city rolls past your window.

SUSHI BUS is set to begin operating in Tokyo on October 10, 2026, offering visitors a 70-minute tour through some of the capital's best-known areas while they enjoy an all-you-can-eat sushi experience. The creators describe it as the world's first tourist attraction of its kind.

The tour departs near Tokyo Station and travels through areas including Ginza, Shibuya, and Asakusa. The experience takes place aboard a refurbished double-decker bus, with a kitchen on the first floor and a conveyor belt on the upper deck. Sushi is prepared downstairs, before being sent upstairs by an internal elevator.

There are just 20 seats, making this a relatively small-scale experience. It's aimed primarily at international visitors to Japan, and the operators say they can accommodate allergies and religious dietary restrictions. An adult ticket costs 16,000 JPY, with reservations having opened at the end of September.

It is certainly an unusual way to see Tokyo, but it also fits nicely with the city's talent for turning familiar Japanese experiences into something unexpected. Rather than simply stopping for sushi during a day of sightseeing, the meal becomes part of the journey itself.

The first service will operate in Tokyo, but there are already plans to expand the concept to other major destinations, including Osaka and Kyoto.

For now, though, Tokyo gets to have one of the more unusual sightseeing experiences around. Grab a plate, take a seat upstairs, and watch the capital roll by.

Departures take place from the Tokyo Station Kajibashi Parking Lot (Bus Terminal), which is around 5 minutes on foot from Tokyo Station itself.
