Le musée Yayoi Kusama a été fondé par l'artiste d'avant-garde contemporaine Yayoi Kusama et est géré par la Fondation Yayoi Kusama. Il a ouvert en 2017 dans le but d'exposer le travail de Kusama pour aider à développer l'art contemporain. Il est situé à Shinjuku, dans la banlieue ouest de Tokyo.

Yayoi Kusama s'est fait un nom sur la scène avant-gardiste new-yorkaise des années 1960. Elle est connue pour ses motifs de points et ses motifs de citrouille et ses œuvres sont exposées dans les plus importants centres d'art et musées du monde.
La collection des œuvres de Kusama est présentée dans deux expositions chaque année avec des conférences et divers autres événements. Les organisateurs veulent diffuser le message de paix dans le monde et d'amour pour l'humanité que Kusama promeut. Tout en permettant à chacun d’interpréter l’art contemporain à sa façon.

Il a été fondé par l’empereur Meiji en juin 1869 et commémore ceux qui sont morts au service du Japon,lors de la guerre de Boshin de 1868-1869 et la première guerre d'Indochine de 1946-1954. Le nom «Yasukuni» donné par l'empereur Meiji signifie maintenir la paix pour toute la nation. Deux fois par an, au printemps et en automne, de grands rituels sont exécutés au cours desquels les offrandes de l'empereur sont consacrées. Le sanctuaire Suga est situé dans le quartier de Yotsuya à Tokyo depuis la période Edo et est considéré comme le gardien des dix-huit districts de Yotsuya.
