Exploring the Refurbished Tokyo Station (2012)
Christopher McLeanWith it's newly refurbished iconic red brick building, Tokyo's rebuilt JR station could be argued to be the face of Tokyo Proper.

Elle est la cinquième plus fréquentée en termes de passagers et sert même de plaque tournante pour de nombreuses lignes régionales de banlieue ainsi que pour le réseau de métro de Tokyo. La station couvre une telle superficie qu’elle est divisée en deux parties : Marunouchi et Yaesu.
La station d'origine a été ouverte en 1914, alors avec 4 voies. Le bâtiment Marunouchi alors construit avec ses briques rouges caractéristiques forme encore aujourd'hui le cœur de la partie ouest, bien que certaines parties aient été détruites pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et reconstruites plus tard. Le bâtiment Yaesu a été ouvert en 1929, mais a été gravement endommagé par un incendie et agrandi au cours des années suivantes. Avec l'ouverture de la première ligne Shinkansen en 1964, la station a été agrandie en conséquence et les voies correspondantes ont été ajoutées.
