Le parc Showa Kinen ou Parc mémorial Showa s'étend sur les districts d'Akishima et de Tachikawa et est le plus grand parc de Tokyo. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le site a servi de base aérienne et a été administré par les États-Unis après la guerre. En 1977, le site a été restitué au gouvernement japonais et une partie de celui-ci a été convertie en parc pour commémorer l'empereur de la période Showa.
Le parc Showa Kinen offre la possibilité de louer des vélos à l'entrée et dispose d'une piste cyclable de 11 km. Vous y trouverez aussi un lac avec des bateaux à rames, de petites échoppes pour des collations et des boissons ainsi que des aires de barbecue.
Le parc est particulièrement populaire en automne, lorsque les feuilles changent de couleur où les visiteurs peuvent se promener dans un couloir fait d'arbres de ginkgo aux feuilles dorées, et bien sûr au printemps lorsque les cerisiers sont en fleurs. Les nombreuses pelouses entre les cerisiers offrent la possibilité d'y faire un pique-nique pour le hanami. En hiver, certaines parties du parc sont éclairées pour Noël.

The main park entrance, Tachikawa gate, is a 5-10 minutes walk from the nearest train station (Tachikawa station).

En 1993, le musée d'architecture en plein air Edo-Tokyo à Tokyo offre un aperçu du Tokyo féodal avec un accent particulier sur l'architecture de cette époque.
